Detail A4 — Local search

Show up on the map when locals search.

When someone nearby searches for what you do, Google shows a map with a few businesses before anything else. Local SEO decides whether yours is one of them. It covers your Google Business Profile, your listings, your reviews and the pages on your site for each area you serve.

Notes — Before you start

Who local SEO is for.

  1. 01Businesses with premises customers visit: shops, clinics, salons, workshops, offices.
  2. 02Businesses that go to their customers, like trades and mobile services. You can show the areas you cover instead of your address.
  3. 03If you only sell online, or your customers could be anywhere, the map matters less. Our SEO and GEO work will help you more.
Specification — How the map is ranked

Google ranks local results on three things.

  • RelevanceHow well your profile and website match what was searched.
  • DistanceHow far you are from the person searching. We can't move you, but we can make sure your areas are set correctly.
  • ProminenceHow well known you are: reviews, mentions, links and your presence across the web.
General notes — FAQ

Questions about local SEO.

We don't have premises customers visit. Can we still appear on the map?

Yes. A business that travels to its customers can hide its address and show the areas it covers instead. You still need a real address to verify the profile with Google.

Can you get us more reviews?

We'll set up an easy way for customers to leave one and help you ask at the right moment. We won't write, buy or filter reviews: that breaks Google's rules and can get a profile suspended.

How long does it take to show up on the map?

A complete, verified profile can start appearing within a few weeks for less competitive searches. Busy categories in big towns take longer, and distance always plays a part.
